Tantra and the Music Business: a load of old Bauls... Music as a spiritual path. The Ballad Of Britain A Musical Journey
Sex, music and the spiritual path have a long and sacred history. I believe it was
AN Wilson who showed that the medieval peripatetic troubadours were actually
Sufi Tantric practitioners, '...a tantric cult existed in Provence at the time of the Troubadours' using the unrequited love to pump the kundalini up the spine to their crown chakras, and its no accident that the damsel was often in a phallic tower! To this day in Inida
The Bauls of Bengal follow in the same tradition '...their membership mainly consists of
sahajiya Vaishnavas,
tantriks and
Sufi Muslims.'
A recent article in the
NME music magazine highlighted a continuing tradition today that writer
Will Hodgkinson discovered on his travels around the UK his- journey is documented in
'The Ballad Of Britain' (see
http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=10&p=6990&more=1&...) He met musicians who were in it purely for the music and not the record deal. With
Lily Allen stopping music because of free illegal downloads, as well as other personal reasons, the whole traditional business model of the music industry is collapsing. And as a recent guest on Radio 1's
Zane Lowe show recently said ' Music is from the clouds and now you can't make big money from it 'the money grabbing bastards of the music industry', only those of us who love music are left.' All a part of a move to a more spiritual, post-materialist culture that we sorely need if the planet is to survive.
